A Year in Review: Our 2024 Sustainability Achievements in the USVI

As 2024 draws to a close, we at Electric Factory reflect on a year of progress, innovation, and unwavering commitment to sustainability in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). This year has been pivotal, as we’ve taken bold steps toward reshaping the energy landscape of our beautiful islands. Join us as we celebrate our most impactful achievements, made possible by the collective efforts of our team, partners, and the vibrant USVI community.

1. Expanding Solar Energy Adoption Across the Islands

This year, we successfully installed over 2 MW of solar capacity, bringing clean, renewable energy to homes, businesses, and public institutions across the USVI. By empowering our community to harness the abundant Caribbean sunshine, we’ve helped reduce dependency on imported fossil fuels and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.

Our flagship initiative, “Solar for All,” provided subsidies and financing options to make solar technology accessible to low- and middle-income households. Over 200 families joined us in transitioning to renewable energy, contributing to a greener, more resilient USVI.

2. Launching the USVI’s First Community Microgrid

In 2024, we unveiled the USVI’s first community microgrid, located in St. Croix. Designed to provide reliable, clean energy during storms and outages, this microgrid combines solar panels, battery storage, and advanced energy management systems.

This project represents a critical step toward energy resilience in a region vulnerable to hurricanes. It has already proven its worth during this year’s tropical storm season, ensuring uninterrupted power for essential services.

3. Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Expansion

Transportation accounts for a significant portion of emissions, and we’re proud to have led efforts to expand the EV charging network across the USVI. With 15 new charging stations installed in 2024, we’ve made it easier than ever for residents and visitors to choose electric vehicles.

To complement this infrastructure, we partnered with local dealerships to host EV education events that encouraged residents to embrace sustainable transportation options. The results? A 20% increase in EV registrations this year!

4. Energy Education and Community Engagement

Sustainability thrives when communities are informed and involved. This year, we launched the “Green Futures” education program, visiting schools and hosting workshops to teach students and adults about renewable energy, conservation, and climate resilience.

In addition, our quarterly Sustainability Saturdays brought together hundreds of residents for hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship across the islands.

5. Achieving Carbon Neutrality at Electric Factory Headquarters

2024 marked a milestone for us as we officially achieved carbon-neutral operations at our St. Thomas headquarters. Through a combination of energy efficiency upgrades, on-site solar, and carbon offsets, we’ve demonstrated our commitment to leading by example in the fight against climate change.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we celebrate this year’s successes, we know the journey toward a sustainable USVI is far from over. In 2025, we aim to double our solar installations, pilot innovative energy storage solutions, and further strengthen our partnerships with local communities and organizations.

To everyone who has supported us in this mission—thank you! Together, we’re building a cleaner, brighter future for the USVI.
